Why the iPhone (or any Smart Phone) is the Best Photo and Video Camera for MOST People

Believe it or not, but the same thing you use for texting, posting, tweeting and calling is probably the best photo and video camera for most people. Here's why.

You ALWAYS have it

I would wager that most people always have their smart phones with them, or at least within arms reach. Unlike most modern DSLR, Mirrorless or point and shoot style cameras, cell phones are compact and portable, making them ideal for daily carry. Having a camera with you more frequently means more opportunities to get photos and videos you otherwise would have missed.

Can shoot BOTH Photos and Video

Most smart phones, from the most basic to most advance, can all shoot some form of photos and videos. Cameras, such as the iPhone Pro Max, have additional features and settings that allow it to capture professional looking video and photos.

It does ALL the THINKING for You

Most consumer, prosumer and professional grade photo and video cameras require the user to manipulate some sort of settings before capturing content. For example, you may need to select a shooting mode, such Aperture Priority, then select your aperture, focus mode, ISO, etc. For most consumer users, this might be a daunting task when all they want to do is take a quick picture. Thankfully, modern smart phones do most of the thinking for you. They will process the shooting conditions and subject matter and pick the best settings. This means the user will only need to press the shutter button! Less thinking = getting the shot.

Most phones have multiple lenses or zoom features

Both my iPhone 12 Pro Max and iPhone 14 Pro Max have 3 different lens options. This allows me to capture photos and videos at different focal lengths. This is great when presented with different shooting conditions. While not all smart phones have 3+ lenses to choose from, most offer a digital zoom feature which allows the user additional flexibility outside of the lens focal lengths.

In camera Editing

By using native apps, such as the iPhone's Photos or iMovie app, or third party apps such as Lightroom, smart phone users can edit their photos or videos without the need for a desktop or laptop computer. This allows for quick editing possibilities while on-the-go.

Integrates easily with Native and Third Party Apps

Smart phones integrate easily with various native and third party apps. This means you can pull up an app like Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook or Twitter, take a photo or video with an in app camera option, edit within the app and then post without needing to toggle back and forth between other apps or hardware. This makes the whole posting process more streamline and efficient. For context, when using a traditional camera, one would need to take a photo or video, upload the content to a computer via USB or Memory card, move that content from the file system to an app like Lightroom or Final Cut, edit within that app, export back to the file system, then upload to social media using a browser like Safari or Chrome.
